Eat, Drink, Toast! Spring-Time Lemon CBD Smoothie

Fresh lemons, 2 whole and 1 sliced in half

How to Take CBD Tinctures

CBD tinctures are versatile and can be used in countless ways, which is one of the coolest things about them! We get it. Sometimes, holding CBD under your tongue for 60 seconds just doesn’t sound appealing, so throw your next dose in this Springtime Lemon Smoothie to switch it up.

What is a Tincture?

First let’s talk about CBD tinctures. The literal definition of tincture is, “a medicine made by dissolving a drug in alcohol.” Tinctures are absolutely not exclusive to the CBD industry. In fact, they were widely used in early medicinal treatments like prepared herbal tinctures. You’ll also find tinctures on the medical cannabis side of things, AKA high-THC cannabis tinctures that must be purchased at a licensed cannabis retail store.

Whole Foods and other wellness-focused businesses have tinctures available to buy, and they usually feature powerful ingredients to encourage different things like respiratory health, a better night’s rest, supercharging the immune system, and more. If you’re interested in herbal tinctures, please consult with a physician first. Herbal ingredients might interact with common medications, and might be unsafe for pregnant and nursing mothers.

coconut oil

What’s in a tincture?

CBD tinctures contain carrier oils, such as organic coconut oil. which is what appears in Toast’s CBD tinctures! We love coconut oil for a few different reasons. Research shows:

  • Coconut oil might be heart-healthy. This 1981 study explored the people of Tokelau, a South Pacific island chain, to have very low levels of heart disease, and to be in generally good health overall. The Tokelau people obtain over 60% of their calories from coconuts! It’s a staple in their diet, making up more than half of their caloric intake.
  • Coconut oil contains fatty acids, which is one of the reasons it’s so loved! Fatty acids are crucial for heart and brain health. Lauric acid makes up roughly 50% of coconut oil’s fatty acids, and when your body digests it, a substance called monolaurin is formed. Test-tube studies show monolaurin to kill the bacteria causing staph infections, and the yeast responsible for common yeast infections in humans. This research signals the need to explore coconut oil’s potential antimicrobial properties further, and shows it might be killing potential microbial organisms in CBD products.

Go USDA Certified Organic

Toast’s tinctures are USDA Certified Organic, which means:

  • Our tinctures contain 95%+ organic content
  • Toast’s hemp plants are sustainably grown, with ecological prosperity in mind
  • We went through strict inspections to earn our USDA Certified Organic status. You can’t use the USDA Certified Organic seal unless you work for it, so we’re proud of that.

Hemp-Derived CBD Tinctures Won’t Make You High

Remember, hemp-derived CBD products won’t cause a high. Even though full-spectrum hemp extract products like Toast’s tinctures contain THC, they contain such a small amount that they won’t make you feel high. The 2018 Farm Bill required all hemp products in the United States to contain less than 0.3% THC, so Toast’s Colorado-grown hemp fits that criteria. The trace amount of THC contributes to the Entourage Effect, which is the scientifically-supported idea that cannabinoids (like CBD and THC) work better together instead of apart.

We always encourage a conversation with a cannabis-educated physician before consuming CBD, especially if you are currently taking other medications.

CBD lemon smoothie

Spring-Time Lemon CBD Smoothie

We love this recipe, because it’s simple, refreshing, and a great way to bring CBD into your daily ritual. We recommend Toast Cold Pressed Lemon Oil for this recipe, but Toast Cold Pressed Orange or Original could work great, as well. Lots of CBD-smoothie lovers stick to unflavored oils so they can be flexible with their smoothie flavors, so just do what works best for you.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup low fat French vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • Your dose of Toast Cold-Pressed Lemon CBD Tincture

Instructions:

  1. Prep all ingredients.
  2. Toss all ingredients in a blender or food processor, and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into your chosen cup.
  4. Cheers!

Bonus: This recipe includes turmeric, which contains anti-inflammatory properties thanks to the awesome compound called curcumin. This makes it a nice CBD-smoothie booster and doesn’t change the taste of the recipe.
